This mug left on the table suggests to Ema that, at least in the mornings, Paul’s wife takes the opportunity to spend a calm moment with him, reading or working at his side, before she leaves.

“If it were possible for us to live together, life would be rosier,” the man declared one day. Ema, however, told herself that even if they should decide to free themselves from their familial bonds, Paul’s race against time, the permanent state of flight he was in, would remain an obstacle between them. And she saw herself, once her need to possess the man was satisfied, blurred into the background, confined to waiting for him, once again, and him barely justifying himself before leaving on new adventures.
